The villas have ancient origins, even the Romans built their summer residences far from the city to escape the summer heat. This tradition has been passed down through time until today, in fact, even now many families still have a house and a city in the country.

Today, many are rented villas in Tuscany vacation from their proprietari.Talvolta be rented entirely, which makes them particularly suitable for families and large groups, but are often divided into several smaller apartments, also suitable for couples or smaller families.

Some historic Tuscan villas also have been turned into hotels, Sicily villas or bed and breakfast from the ‘family atmosphere, where guests can feel at ease, like visiting the house of a dear friend.

A little ‘history …

In the Middle Ages there were frequent clashes between opposing factions and political upheavals in the cities and on these occasions families prudently took refuge in their country estates.

The villas in Tuscany were built away from the villages and had no military function, so the houses themselves did not need any special defenses as needed instead of the castles or fortresses. So the traditional look of a fortress, with towers, thick walls and small windows was mitigated by the ‘addition of decorative details, approaching to simply plastered walls, arches and courtyards with well. The architecture of these castles became an example to copy and develop and the result can be seen clearly in appearance and elegant classical villas that have taken over time in Tuscany and then throughout Italy.

Trophy moose, black bear and white tailed deer are abundant throughout the thousands of square miles (yes that’s thousands) of crown managed forests accessible from our lodge.

Located at the junction of the historic Ottawa and Mattawa rivers the lodge offers the unique opportunity to fish and hunt in two Canadian provinces. This means twice the territory, expanded seasons and greater variety of species. For example Quebec allows a moose to be taken by bow during bow season and by rifle during rifle season. Ontario on the other hand has regulations for deer hunting much less stringent than Quebec. Our experienced management and guides will design annual hunts to ensure the best opportunities for each species in each province.

Small game and waterfowl hunting are great ways to spend some time after you’ve taken your big game animal. When you want to fish for fun you can catch Walleye, Northern Pike, Large and Small Mouth Bass, Muskie, Whitefish and Sturgeon off the dock. When you want to get serious we’ll take you into the ZEC MAGANASIPI. Just across the river, this three hundred square mile preserve offers three hundred and seven lakes. Rainbow trout, Lake Trout, Brook Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Lake Char, Splake and Sauger along with the others mentioned above can be caught in record numbers and trophy sizes. Just a forty five minute drive from the club (paved road) puts you in ALGONQUIN PARK. Four thousand and eight hundred square miles of protected wilderness, a thousand miles of inter connected canoe routes and lakes, fishing and wild life viewing without equal in North America.

Sound like your in the middle of nowhere?

The Mattawa Gaming Club is located just four miles from the village of Mattawa, Ontario. Less than three hundred miles from Buffalo NY or five hundred miles from Clevland Ohio.

Mattawa and area is a snowmobilers paradise. Ontario offers excellent snow conditions and the largest groomed trail system in the world, twenty two thousand miles. To access this system from the club just turn on your machine and go. Or go wild! We’ll take you across the river and into the Laurentian mountains, country so remote and breathtakingly beautiful you’ll remember it forever. Deep powder, 50 degree hill climbs and lakes not accessible in summer provide trophy ice fishing that combine to make these trips world class adventures.

Or how about a little boat ride?

Say two hundred miles along the Lake Temiskaming /Ottawa River Waterway. Accommodating boats up to thirty feet in length the route is a historical and cultural treasure. First used as the main exploration route to the west, then as a major fur trade route in Canada and then for the massive logging drives of the eighteen hundreds the waterway offers the opportunity to revisit our past and learn of the three cultures (Native, Quebecois, and English) that came together to open up this massive wilderness. Visit historic sites and museums, watch Golden Eagles soar and dive for fish to feed their young, camp on pristine beaches and fall asleep to the sound of loons, unconcerned with your presence.

But what about the club?
The club is dedicated to avid sportsmen and comes fully equipped to help ensure your fishing and hunting success. Members have use of one of three fully furnished lodges. Boats and motors are supplied as are two A.T.V.s to get you to your hunting grounds. Two camping trailers are provided for use during extended hunts. Block and tackle assemblies for game removal and cleaning are also provided. Fish cleaning stations and big game cleaning quarters are on site as are minnow tanks, freezing facilities and on site fuel pumps for your convenience. The club has a total of twenty seven boat and float plane slips for those members wishing to bring their own craft. Year round storage is available and on site management provides security. A full range of guiding and outfitting services are provided to ensure you bring home what you came for. It’s a small private club in a big big land. A total of only eighteen members are allowed to bring up to three guests each time they visit.

Our experienced hospitality management team is on site year round to coordinate bookings and ensure your satisfaction. Individual members have an opportunity to put forth changes to the clubs rules and regulations on an annual basis and such changes will be voted on by the membership. Memberships are legally transferred by way of a ninety nine year lease registered in the Ontario Land Transfer Registry. Memberships are fully assignable and may be transferred, willed or resold at any time. Our American members can take advantage of current monetary exchange rates that reduce membership costs by approximately thirty five percent. For less than the cost of a new bass boat, you, your children and your children’s children can secure your place in the finest wilderness area in the east.

If you are looking for unforgettable adventure, trophy big game hunting, world class fishing and a place in God’s Country call today for more information.

one of the most majestic tarpon and snook lodges of all of Central America” The PanAngler.

Unquestionably one of the greatest experiences an angler can have is to witness a big tarpon leap skyward– five or six feet out of the water–and then come crashing on the water’s surface, splintering it into thousands droplets of water. And that’s only the beginning. In the next time frame–whether it’s only minutes or over an hour–the lucky angler will be tested by one of their strongest, most dramatic gamefish of the world. One of the very best places to experience this wonderful scene over and over again is at Silver King Lodge, on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.

Silver King Lodge has emerged over the past few seasons as a world-class tarpon and snook fishing resort. Situated in a lush, tropical environment on the banks of the Rio Colorado River, it offers matchless accommodations to compliment the challenging fishing.

Tarpon in the 50- to 80-pound class are the norm in these waters, though 100 pounders are often encountered. Costa Rica is famous for trophy snook, with ten to 20 pounders not uncommon. Four IGFA world record snook have been taken from the east coast, including the all-tackle record. Upriver, backwater bays and tributaries host a trio of local exotics (machaca, guapote, and mojarra) that are great fun on light freshwater gear, and a soothing alternative to the more bruising tarpon.

Silver King offers guests a wide choice in regard to its fishing boats. For plying the Colorado River and its nearby tributaries, 19-ft. Carolina skiffs with 65 HP outboards are standard. For venturing out through the river mouth and into the tarpon rich Caribbean, hop in a 23-ft. deep V fiberglass boat with a new 150 HP outboard. For those who want to give the offshore fishing a shot, Silver King is the only lodge to offer a fully equipped boat with twin 150′s to get you out to the action quickly and safely.

If you need tackle, Silver King’s got it. Its tackle shop is fully stocked with top quality plug casting and spinning rigs for the tarpon and snook, Orvis fly rods, and both Penn Internationals and Fin-Nor gear for plying offshore waters. Silver King also has all the right lures for whatever type of fish you want to pursue from tarpon and snook to wahoo, tuna and even sails.

English-speaking guides know these waters well, as understand a broad range of approaches to the fishing, from casting and trolling to fly fishing.

Spacious duplex cottages all feature two full size beds, large tiled bathrooms with hot showers, plus electricity, and overhead fans. The dining room is paneled in native hardwoods and serves superb meals that reflect both local favorites as well as American style entrees. The bar never closes and all liquor is included in the camp package.

If a battle with a monster tarpon has taxed your muscles, take a relaxing dip in the new, enclosed jacuzzi. You don’t need to take a lot of clothes as Silver King will wash and dry them each day for you, on the house. If a gentle tour of the local environment is of interest, take one of the lodge’s kayaks or canoes out to sneak up on the howler monkeys, caimans or the abundant birdlime, or just paddle around and admire Costa Rica’s rich rain forest.

The Fishing:
Over sixty miles of flats surround Exuma, Bahamas providing some of the world’s very best bonefish habitat. The fine white sand and “gin clear” waters are tailor-made for wading or fishing from a skiff. Vast schools of three- to six-pound bonefish provide unparalleled excitement and opportunity for even the novice fly fisherman. For the more experienced anglers who prefer the tougher challenges, there are smaller pods of larger bonefish. Each year, bones of over 10 pounds are hooked; usually you will find these double-digit fish as loners, sometimes in doubles. Occasionally, you will see the wary permit cruising and feeding the edges of these flats, and, of course, there are the ever-present barracuda to offer a diversion.

The Guides:
They belong to the Exuma Guides’ Association and are hard working, friendly, knowledgeable and can be of great help to the novice or the experienced fly fisherman. They are all fly fishermen who have participated in a certification program that includes: fly casting instruction, fly-tying, knot-tying, First Aid and CPR. You will also find them to be sensible environmentalists who place great importance on the maintenance of their resource.

Accommodations:
Guests have a choice of three resorts:
THE BONEFISH LODGE,
is located ten miles south of George Town on a peninsula overlooking gin clear waters and easy access to both beautiful beaches and spectacular bonefishing. The lodge (new in 1995) consists of eight rooms and a private lounge for the fishermen with fly-tying, satellite TV, card table and video library.

THE BEACH INN
is located one mile west on the white sand beach of Bonefish Bay. The Beach Inn consists of 16 rooms, a small beach and a fresh water pool.

CLUB PEACE & PLENTY
is right in George Town, overlooking Elizabeth Harbour The Club consists of 35 rooms, easy access to shopping and sight-seeing and a fresh water pool. There is a shuttle service between all the hotels.

Each resort offers well appointed air-conditioned rooms, fine dining, lounge and warm, friendly staff.
(Bonefishing packages are generally at the Bonefish Lodge or Beach Inn)

For the “non-fisherman”:
For family members or friends who don’t fish, Exuma is not only charming, but it’s a great vacation land. Peace & Plenty operates a free ferry boat service twice daily to Stocking Island from the Club where one can explore miles of secluded beach, snorkel, sailboat, swim, or just relax with a tropical drink and a conchburger (Exuma’s answer to the “Big Mac”). For those interested in underwater activities, Exuma Fantasea, under the direction of divemaster and marine biologist, Ed Haxby, offers “Eco-dives” as well as snorkeling trips and a boat rental service that will permit you to explore a myriad of secluded adjacent cays. Rental cars, as well as guided land tours are available for those wishing to explore the historical sights of Exuma.

One of the many advantages of Pine Island Lodge (PIL) is its accessibility. Anglers fly to Winnipeg, Manitoba, are met at the airport and driven by van to Pointe du Bois: From there, it’s one-half hour by boat to camp (a most scenic and enjoyable by the way). No overnights. Quick and easy.

PIL is located at the remote boundary of Manitoba’s Whiteshell Forest on the famous Winnipeg River system. The lodge is 22 miles from the nearest road, and can only be reached by boat or float plane.

Pine Island Lodge is nestled on 17-acre private island, among the spruce, birch and pines. The Winnipeg River is not what most anglers imagine when they think of a “river.” The Winnipeg has huge lake-like areas with large bays studded with spruce and birch covered islands, rocky reefs that border immense weed beds, submerged gravel bars that stair-step from 8 to 100 feet of water. The coves and inlets are fringed with lily pads and wild rice.

The Winnipeg flows around dozens of beautiful tree-filled islands that harbor quiet back bays and deep dark runs: ideal places to locate fish even in the hottest weather. Wind is not a problem at Pine Island, because of the numerous islands, protected bays and inlets.

These waters are productive for northern pike, walleye and smallmouth bass. There are numerous good fishing areas available, so the angler will not be crowded at any time nor worry about fishing pressure. Northern pike average 4 to 8 pounds, but each season many over 18 pounds are caught. Walleyes are typically two to three pounds, but larger walleyes–exceeding five pounds– are caught every year.

Perhaps it is smallmouth bass, though, that really distinguishes Pine Island Lodge from other Manitoban camps. Pound for pound the smallmouth is considered one of the strongest freshwater gamefish. It leaps, it makes fast, bulldog rushes, changes direction quickly and fights to the last second.

Pine Island has access to Manitoba’s finest smallmouth waters. The majority of Master Angler Awards for smallmouth come from these waters, and most of them are caught by Pine Island guests. You can fish the river itself, or if you prefer, Crowduck or Big Echo Lakes which are reached by portage (PIL keeps boats on these lakes). For a real change of pace, fly into George Lake, (at an additional charge for the charter plane), which has produced a great number of giant bass in recent years. During the early season, George Lake also has lake trout in its shallow waters to add a further dimension to its fishing.

Accommodations at Pine Island are modern and comfortable and earned a government approved Four-Star rating. All cabin are paneled, carpeted, have round-the-clock electricity, private bathrooms and showers. Bedrooms have single beds with inner-spring mattresses to insure a good night’s sleep in preparation for tomorrow’s great fishing adventure. Cottages hold from two to eight guests, depending on the size of the party. There is daily maid service and every morning a pot of coffee is delivered to your doorstep and each evening the ice bucket is filled. The main lodge incorporates the dining room and lounge which offers TV, stereo, pool table, etc.,for evening relaxation. A small but well stocked tackle shop is equipped with additional lures.

Meals are excellent; they typically feature roast pork, chicken, steak and turkey. Breakfasts are equally hearty. And of course, the big shore lunch prepared by your guide is one of the highlights of the day.

Equipment and Guides: PIL uses 16-ft. Lund, deep-vee aluminum boats powered by 20 hp Mercs. Each boat is equipped with swivel seats, coolers, landing net, boat cushions, and an experienced guide is assigned to each boat (maximum two anglers).

Conservation Policy: Manitoba offers a conservation fishing license which costs less. PIL sells this license exclusively and has instituted a trophies-only policy for smallmouth bass. Two reasons why fishing has improved.

About the 1995 Season: “One of the best in a long time for smallmouths,” some of the regular guests seem to echo.

From J. C. Joyce, of Tulsa, OK.: ” …we boated 30 or more bass each day on the river and those bass were from two to four pounds and would nearly jerk you in the lake…”

John Gaines and Fred Lane landed 40 bass from George Lake (fly-out), which is outstanding, but the previous year this duo landed 135 smallmouths in one day at George. Walleye fishing was also good, topped by a 29.5-inch walleye caught by Mark Ruffey.

In 1994, a number of very big northern pike (over 20 pounds) were landed; 1995 was a good year for numbers of pike, but the really big fish (18 pounds or larger) were not as numerous. Reason? The weather was extremely good and bright and the fish may have been in deeper waters.

splendid smallmouth bass fishing coupled with magnificent accomodations

Lake Obabika Lodge pampers you with its ultra attractive accommodations, high degree of personal service and gourmet meals. But Lake Obabika Lodge also provides some of the finest fishing for the spectacular smallmouth bass.

Lake Obabika is a fertile watershed that hosts huge populations of feisty smallmouth bass. Although you can drive right to the lodge, there’s no public access so fishing pressure is limited to lodge guests and the potential for fast action and trophy smallies remains strong. Two- to three-pound bass are common and anglers could tangle with even larger bass. The typical Ontario bass lake often turns out its best fishing during the early weeks of the season, late May through mid-June. But historically Obabika’s cold, clear waters produce better sport later in the summer, starting in early July, when the days are warmer and sunny.

The Lake Obabika watershed meanders alluringly with “mysterious” protected coves and rocky arms providing excellent smallmouth cover. Obabika’s property also contains quite a few smaller, “portage” lakes that provide additional bass action. The portages are easy and many guests quickly become enamored of fishing these smaller lakes with the-away-from-it-all feel and ample supplies of feisty bass, some of which will rival the heft of those from the main lake. There’s opportunities for northern pike and lake trout, even the occasional brookie as well, but it’s the smallmouth that draws the major share of the angling attention.

Lake Obabika Lodge’s facilities are among the finest in Canada. They have been accorded the highest ratings possible by the Canadian Board of Tourism.

The main lodge overlooks the lake in a secluded cove, with a broad lawn and sandy beach sprawling out front. Inside guests will find a variety of facilities, from the elegant lounge area to the fully stocked bar, and inviting dining room. There’s even an outside veranda for enjoying a last cup of coffee or a special Canadian sunset. The nearby dock house has exercise room, billiard/pool table, large screen TV, even a sauna and jacuzzi for soothing muscles stressed from a hard day on the water.

Meals are always a special treat at Obabika, a source of tremendous pride by the owners. Four to six course dinners are typical, all prepared in gourmet style by the lodge’s chef.

And when guests retire to their individual log cabins, they’ll find the same luxury in each unit, including full shower and bathroom facilities, living room, color TV, even in- room fridge.

Lake Obabika is owned and operated by the Herburger family. Natives of Austria, they brought their rich European traditions and sense of style to this Ontario oasis. Markus Herburger is a master cabinetmaker, and personally supervised the construction of the lodge. You can see his talented hand at every turn. Lodge manager Peter Herburger makes sure everything runs smoothly, from the meals to the fishing.

The Herburger family also operates Obabika Island which is a very comfortable two-bedroom cottage located five minutes (by boat) from the main lodge. It accommodates up to four persons and is perfect for anglers or families who would like total privacy and preparingtheir own meals.

Packages can begin and end any day of the week preferred, and can include as many days of fishing as one desires. There’s a raft of non-fishing activities available as well, making Lake Obabika Lodge a perfect family destination as well as a good choice for the serious smallmouth angler.

the ultimate fishing lodge featuring daily fly out trips

As the plane banks towards the river, the shadows on the stream bed begin to move. It’s a pulse-quickening sight as hundreds of salmon scatter, alarmed by the overhead float plane. Minutes later a strong salmon streaks away against the angler’s arcing rod and screeching reel. In the heart of the Bristol Bay wilderness, this is an everyday experience, a pleasure afforded to a cadre of lucky anglers who are guests at Mission Lodge at Lake Aleknagik.

Mission Lodge offers daily fly-outs to all guests. Not only do they have a pair of Beaver planes mounted on floats, but they also maintain a pair of STOL equipped aircraft on wheels. STOL (for Short Take-off and Landing) aircraft can fly into areas where float planes cannot: deserted beaches where streams empty into the ocean and the salmon are dime bright, or narrow gravel bars on isolated bends of rivers, even a tundra covered meadow close to a small stream full of feisty graying or big rainbows. They add a measure of flexibility beyond that included by other Alaskan lodges

The Mission Lodge season begins in early June. Though the streams are yet to be filled with migrating salmon, this is a prime time to catch trophy rainbow trout hungry after a long winter and a few weeks of vigorous spawning. Late June heralds the arrival of the huge king salmon, followed by chums, sockeyes and pinks in mid to late July. The rivers begin to fill with thousands of salmon at this point, capped off by the coho’s arrival in mid August.

As the salmon become more numerous, so do the opportunities for non-migratory species. Big rainbows are always a prime attraction, with five-to eight-pounders available season round, sometimes larger. Dolly varden, char and grayling also compete to gobble up drifting salmon eggs, fattening up for the onset of the long, arduous winter.

And when a satisfying day of fishing is complete, anglers will find plenty of warm hospitality awaiting. Except for couples, each angler has a private bedroom at Mission Lodge, with a double bed. Bathrooms all have full shower facilities, and there’s even washers and dryers available for guests.

Downstairs, the lodge features a well stocked tackle shop, fly tying bench, conference room, plus large screen TV and full bar. Guests can take a soothing dip in the jacuzzi on the front porch, or relax in the lounge and absorbing the scenic lake view. Gourmet meals are served family style, and are always a special treat.

If you prefer a more remote tent camp environment, where you are at water’s edge, and have almost unlimited fishing time, consider Alaska West, Mission Lodge’s facility on the Kanektok River. It’s one of the premier rainbow trout rivers in Alaska, and also hosts strong runs of salmon. Alaska West doesn’t offer any fly-outs, but provides outstanding fishing at a value packed rate.

wild rainbows amidst spectacular scenery

Located in the central interior of British Columbia, the Blackwater River drains a vast hinterland from the Coast Range Mountains eastward through the Fraser Plateau to the Fraser River. Expansive grasslands and muskeg swamps with countless trout-filled lakes in the headwaters provide a slow release effect which maintains optimum river fishing conditions.

The Blackwater ranges in width from 75 to 150 feet with a number of rocky canyons that narrow to less than ten feet as it cuts deeper through the plateau to the Fraser River. You often see bald eagles, osprey and kingfishers feeding along the bank, black bear, moose or mule deer on a sunny gravel bar.

THE FISHING: The Blackwater River’s wild native rainbow trout have been thriving for millennia in the warm and moderate conditions which also produce prolific insect populations and consequent hatches. Stoneflies emerge in late May followed by various caddis and mayfly blizzards throughout the summer. The “prime, bright, stout” rainbows of the Blackwater average a 1′ pounds and can reach four pounds.

They provide plenty of sport on light tackle. Regardless of your level of expertise, the Blackwater provides every challenge to test your skills. As the river winds through gentle valleys and drops briskly through jagged canyons, you will be presented with a full range of angling opportunities. Wade deep in those big, classic pools and cast far and fine to the trout showing in that feeding channel near the opposite shore, or work short quick casts through fast pocket water. The fishing is great throughout the season and each part of the summer has its own special appeal. THE TRIP: The Blackwater Company has been the only outfit guiding anglers on the lower Blackwater for over twenty years.

Intimate knowledge of the river and devotion to providing first class service assures that you will have the most enjoyable, comfortable wilderness fishing experience possible. One guide and boat are provided for every two fishermen and a separate camp boat travels ahead to have lunches and camps prepared when guests arrive. The daily floating distances are short and most of the time is spent wading the river. Guides are eager to help with their flyfishing expertise and general knowledge of the history, flora and fauna of the area. The complete camp will provide for your every need, with comfortable chairs, large tarps, spacious tents and thick mattresses that guarantee you will return to the river well rested and refreshed.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES: In addition to the float trips on the Blackwater River, there are several other programs of interest. There are endless miles of smaller tributaries of the Blackwater that afford unlimited wilderness wading with loads of wildlife and great fishing. And many smaller lakes that also provide exciting adventures in seldom fished waters. You may want to add a few days of this to your trip. For those big fish enthusiasts, the Chilko River can deliver large, strong, big-lake rainbows to ten pounds in a spectacular setting.

Brabant Lodge Canada

The Mackenzie River, near Great Slave Lake, has long been considered “one of Canada’s six best waters for northern pike fishing.” Brabant Lodge, strategically located on the Mackenzie, takes full advantage of numerous great pike fishing areas.

Northern pike in the eight- to 12-pound class are typical, and nearly all lodge guests will tangle with a number of pike that exceed 15 pounds and quite a few guests succeed in landing pike 20 or more pounds. 25 pounders are possible season round. In addition to big fish, anglers are kept busy with lots of action: it’s not uncommon to land 50 pike in a day’s efforts.

More and more anglers are bringing their fly rods to Brabant. Shallow bays and abundant pike make this an ideal spot for those who enjoy the long rod, and the arm wrenching strike of a big pike. Several anglers have set fly rod IGFA records here in recent years. The late Peter Barrett, fishing editor of Field & Stream magazine, and PanAngling’s Jim Chapralis fished with a fly rod 90% of the time and their catches were amazing. Peter highly praised this fishing experience in Field and Stream.

Arctic grayling are also fairly plentiful. Although they are available throughout the day, many anglers like to fish for them in the evening, when they can gently drift down the Mackenzie’s soft currents, and cast a fly or small spinner. Most of the grayling are under three pounds, with an occasional fish approaching four.

After mid-July, the Mackenzie begins to offer consistent walleye fishing. In a river environment, the walleyes tend to move around extensively, so finding the fish here can be more of a challenge than catching them. While most will be in the two- to four-pound range a good number can exceed six pounds, which is a hefty walleye in any location.

One of Brabant’s strongest points is its staff. Simply you just won’t find a harder working or more attentive group. Fishing skiffs are washed out twice daily so guests always have a clean boat. Brabant’s fleet consist of 18-ft. Lunds powered by 30- to 55- hp outboards. All boats are outfitted with upholstered swivel seats, anchors, paddles, life jackets etc. “Among the best in Canada,” everyone echoes.

The main lodge features two lounge areas, tackle bar, an outside deck with a majestic, commanding view of the river, and a spacious dining room. Meals are always superb and hearty, and served with complimentary wine at dinner time.

Cabins hold two to four anglers each. All units have heat, electricity and full bathroom and shower facilities.

Trips to Brabant begin in Hay River, NWT. Jet service to Hay River operates 6 days a week from both Calgary and Edmonton. The standard package is 5 nights, though longer stays can be arranged upon request.

1995 RESULTS: 1995 was one of the best walleye seasons and more 20-lb. plus pike were caught than in previous years. The two largest pike were a 29-lb., 7 oz. pike caught by Terry Meier and Shannon Thompson’s 29 pounder.

CATCH & RELEASE POLICY: In order to maintain our top quality fishing for today and tomorrow, Bolton requires that all trophy fish be released.

WHEN IS FISHING THE BEST? May and June: Post spawn walleye and northern pike very plentiful, beginning to feed heavily. Trout are up. Most trophies landed and biggest numbers of fish taken. July-August: Fish are more dispersed, fishing is very steady, bigger trophies begin appearing. Trout are deeper, but no problem with downriggers. August – September: Late August and all of September are when the biggest trophies of all species are generally caught. Now you see really giant northerns, and the beauty of fall colors.
